Obama 'quote' has no basis in fact
I am writing this letter as a response to Steve Brixon’s letter to the editor entitled “Obama’s comment on military was regrettable.” Taking up space in the paper for something that wasn’t said and was probably read from some circulating e-mails which were never researched for veracity only produces emotion, and ill-conceived notions that cause people to air their ignorant conclusions publicly. Fifteen seconds on the computer to Snopes.com or FactCheck.org reveals the original comment was excerpted from a satirical piece by conservative humorist John Semmems which was published on 21 March 2009.
I have read e-mails that Obama was going to make us register our guns on the census form. Needless to say there was no place on my census form to list my guns. I didn’t believe it enough to research it because it seemed unbelievable, and it was. I write this letter because some people will believe anything they read in print, true or not, including Mr. Brixen’s obvious bias against our president.
