Obama 'quote' was unfounded

| June 7, 2010 9:00 PM

Regarding a past letter in which I quoted Obama as wanting wounded vets to use their private insurance to cover their service injuries … it does, in fact, seem I quoted a quote that was never made. I erred badly.

I received the correct information from a very respected U.S. Air Force retired colonel who is affiliated with a highly respected organization, the Military Officers Association of America.

So, I humbly eat crow. However, Americans should remain cognizant of an administration proposal that would have allowed the VA to bill a third party for service connected care, i.e. their insurance company. Many organizations vigorously opposed this proposal, with some in Congress saying any such bill would be DOA.

I respectfully retract what I claimed to be a correct quote. I pride myself on making true statements that I can back up with facts. My self-esteem is intact; my pride is intact; my attempts at politically incorrect, independent, truthful commentary will continue. I appreciate being called on the carpet if I make false statements. I am accountable. For people to affix their names to such criticism is a good — no, great — thing. I had one fellow come to my house, eyeball me, and tell me I was mistaken. We need more like him.

One thing: I shall never waiver in my support of our military.

God bless America, and God bless our troops.
