Enid Marie Gruenewald, 83,

Enid Marie Gruenewald, 83, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010 in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Enid was born on May 1, 1927, to parents, Arthur and Josephine Ryberg, at White River, S.D.

Enid’s father, Arthur, passed away when she was a baby and her uncle, Julius Ryberg, married her mother and became the father that Enid would know.

Enid’s childhood was shared with her sisters, Elsie and Marilee, and her brother Art, living on their family’s homestead farm during the 1930s and the 1940s.

In 1947, Enid graduated from the Methodist State Hospital School of Nursing in Mitchell, S.D.

Enid’s nursing profession spanned more than 40 years as she provided care for her patients until she retired in 1986.

Enid married DeLor Gruenewald in 1947 and their family included five children, 13 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Over Enid’s lifetime, she resided in South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming, California, and finally in Idaho for the past 30 years.

Enid enjoyed being a mother and grandmother, her nursing career, reading, gardening, and attending family reunions, and visiting with her children and their families.

 In recent years, Enid developed Alzheimer’s disease and received compassionate care while residing at Hearthstone Village Assisted Living (previously Beehive Homes) and during the last month at Life Care Center in Sandpoint, Idaho.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur, Josephine and Julius Ryberg; her sister, Marilee Dano, and a brother Art Ryberg. 

Enid’s survivors include a sister, Elsie Lyman of Everett, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Donna Ryberg, of White River, S.D.; five children, including sons Dannie Gruenewald and wife Harriet of Pickstown, S.D., Randy Gruenewald and wife Reny of Rockland, Calif., and Gary Gruenewald and wife DeeAnn of Salinas, Calif.; and daughters, Donna Wagner of Modesto, Calif., and Lori Bilodeau and husband Peter of Sandpoint, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in White River, S.D.
