Hamilton hurls a no-hitter to lead Lakers

| June 8, 2010 9:00 PM

KELLOGG — Featuring an array of nasty pitches, Tevin Hamilton tossed a no-hitter and struck out a whopping 18 hitters to lead the Peak Sand and Gravel Lakers to a doubleheader split against Silver Valley in American Legion baseball action Sunday in Kellogg.

Hamilton settled in after struggling a little with his control during a rainy first inning, mixing a fastball with a sharp slider and mowing through the lineup en route to a 2-0 win in the opener, running his record on the year to 2-0.

Cole Tonnemacher provided all of the run support needed with a two-run homer in the first inning, and catcher Corey Neer helped protect the small lead defensively by throwing out three would-be base stealers.

The Lakers (2-2) gave up four runs in the first inning of the second game, and could never recover in falling 6-3. Garrett Morris tossed four scoreless innings of middle relief in his first outing with the team. Scott Snow hit a towering home run and Joel Cramer ripped a double, but the Lakers left 13 baserunners stranded and couldn’t string together a big inning.

The Lakers host Coeur d’Alene today at 6 p.m. at War Memorial Field in the home opener, and also have home games slated for Wednesday and Friday.
