NIE golf tournament is a win for everyone
Now that we have gotten a taste of summer weather, let’s talk about doing something fun.
If you are a golfer — or have always wanted to be — do I have an invitation for you.
Thanks to Jeff Rokstad, the Daily Bee is hosting its ninth annual Newspapers in Education golf tournament at the world-famous Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.
Even though it is called a tournament, it really isn’t except for a few of the skilled golfers who really like to go after a top-notch course.
For the rest of us, it is 18 holes next to Coeur d’Alene Lake with personalized golf instructions from a good golfer who happens to be your caddy.
Rokstad Ford and the Bee also kick in a lunch and a chance for skilled and non-skilled prizes for only $125. The usual price for just a round of golf at the Resort is up to $200, depending on the time of season.
Of the $125, we pay the Resort course folks $100.
The June 26 date also makes it possible for us because the rest of Coeur d’Alene is closed because its Ironman triathlon weekend as well as Hoopfest in Spokane.
The weather is supposed to be fantastic.
The golf tournament is the largest fundraiser for the Daily Bee’s Newspapers in Education program.
Each fall, teachers are asked how many newspapers they need for their classrooms. Teachers use the Bee for lessons on current events, etc.
The NIE fund pays Daily Bee carriers for dropping off the papers at the schools.
With the economy slowing down, it has been harder for us to find sponsors to assist us in the NIE program and that is why the tournament is vital.
Please check your calendar to see if June 26 is open for this family fun, memory making event at the Pacific Northwest’s best golf course.
And as an added bonus, if you sign up between now and Friday, I will kick in a pass for two adults on Lake Coeur Cruises. That is a $39.50 value.
Call Jeff at 263-9534 to get signed up for a day of golf you won’t soon forget.
