Sign plan gets hearing today
SANDPOINT — How many banners and sandwich boards that a business may display is the topic of a 5:30 p.m. public hearing at today’s planning commission meeting.
The hearing is one of two scheduled this week. A hearing at city hall tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. will address changes to the city’s zoning regulations.
The amended banner and sandwich board ordinance — if residents, business owners and council members approve — will combat the hodgepodge of banners and boards businesses use in the city.
If approved, the banner and sandwich board amendments will allow either one banner or one sandwich board per business.
The additions to the city zoning code would establish districts according to what type of construction best suits the area. It would regulate the type of new construction allowed downtown, in the main business district and in residential and industrial neighborhoods.
“It makes sure the vision of the comprehensive plan is carried through,” said Jeremy Grimm, city planner.
The city’s comprehensive plan was adopted in February 2009.
“This is the realization of the vision of the comprehensive plan,” Grimm said.
