Check facts before sending e-mails on
In rebuttal to Mr. Brixen, our president did not say those words (Obama’s comment on military was regrettable, June 1.) They were written by conservative humorist John Semmens, which were published on his website in March 2009. As usual, most people getting these e-mails either refuse to check the facts or want to believe it so much that they don’t care.
The truth is, in order to save $540 million per year, the Obama administration proposed that veterans’ own insurance pay for treatment of their combat injuries and other service-related health problems. Right now, only non-service related medical treatments are billed to their private insurance. This proposal would not have made veterans pay for their own injuries out of pocket or buy private insurance. It might have made it harder for veterans to get health insurance once in the private sector. The veterans did not like the idea so it was nixed.
So, Mr. Brixen and others who receive these e-mails, should check their facts completely before writing letters or e-mailing their friends with a continuation of these untruths. For their information, they can check with snopes.com or factcheck.org.
