City Rec offers variety of youth tennis classes

SANDPOINT — Registration for 2010 Youth Tennis has begun at Sandpoint Parks and Recreation, located at 1123 Lake St. A host of classes are offered, rackets are provided and partial scholarships are available on a need basis. Sessions are filling fast so register early.

• Tennis for Tiny Tots (Ages 4-5)

Special training techniques and toys will be used to keep our tiny tots smiling and having fun. Lessons are held at Lakeview Park, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-8:45 a.m. The class fee is $12 ($2 city discount). Session Session No. 2 runs on June 22 and June 24.

• Tennis for Hot Hitters (Ages 6-7)

Special training techniques and toys will be used to keep our hot hitters smiling and having fun. Lessons are held at Lakeview Park, Monday through Thursday from 9-10 a.m. The class fee is $23 ($3 city discount). Session No. 2 runs June 21, 22, 23 and 24.

• Tennis for Intermediate Youth (Ages 8-12)

These lessons teach fundamentals, strategy and play. Beginning lessons or play experience is required. All sessions are held at Lakeview Park Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m.to noon. The class fee is $23 ($3 city discount). Session No. 2 runs on June 21, 22, 23 and 24.

• Tennis Teen Skill Development (middle school and high school JV players)

These summer tennis sessions are a fun opportunity for players with previous experience to learn sound tennis fundamentals and to improve their game and take it to the next level. Players will work on stroke refinement, movement on the court and strategy. Learn what it takes to become a high school varsity player. All sessions are held at Lakeview Park on Monday through Thursday from Noon to 1 p.m. The class fee is $23 ($3 city discount). Session No. 3 runs on June 28, 29, 30 and July 1.

• Tennis Intensive Skill Development (high school varsity players)

This summer session is for players who have previous playing experience. Participants will work on stroke refinement, movement, strategy and what it takes to be a winning varsity player. All sessions are held at Lakeview Park on Monday through Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. The class fee is $23 ($3 city discount). Session No. 2 runs on June 21, 22, 23 and 24.
