Women of Wisdom nominations sought
It starts out as just an ordinary evening among the many in an unsuspecting lady’s long and productive life. The phone rings. Our friend picks it up, says “hello” and listens.
“Hello, I’m calling you from the group, Women Honoring Women,” the voice at the other end says. “We’d like you to know that you have been selected as one of this year’s Women of Wisdom honorees for our luncheon in June.”
Suddenly, a life changes.
Our friend is astounded. She can’t believe it. She wonders who nominated her. Curiosity turns into stunned excitement as she listens to the voice at the other end congratulating her and telling her a few details about the upcoming luncheon at the Tango Café on Saturday, June 19, 2010.
This scenario has not happened yet this year, but when it does, you can bet that as many as five local women’s lives will turn magical that evening and for the next several weeks, leading up to the luncheon.
Families and friends will be notified. Once more, the sponsoring organization, Women Honoring Women, will derive great joy by getting acquainted with the newest class of honorees for this annual program, now in its twelfth year.
So far, more than 60 Women of Wisdom can attest to the fact that being honored in this way has turned out to be one of the most meaningful events of their lives.
The process, spanning from submission of nominating letters to the festive luncheon, singles out individuals who have consistently served as outstanding examples of dedication, empathy, selflessness, resilience, intellectual curiosity, creativity and good works within this community.
Selectees often range from highly visible community leaders to quiet unsung heroes who follow a low-key approach to making a positive difference in others’ lives. They must be at least 65 years old.
To make this special tribute happen once more for yet another deserving group in 2010, a few details need to fall into place. During the next few weeks, nomination applications will appear several times in the Bonner County Daily Bee.
In response, nomination letters supporting why nominees deserve the honor need to be written and submitted by April 2 to Women Honoring Women, P.O. Box 159, Sandpoint, ID 83864 or by e-mail to khubbard@bonnercountydailybee.com.
After nominations close on April 2, WHW committee members will take time to review the letters on a special website and then meet as a group to make this year’s selections.
Once that process is completed, those wonderful phone calls will once again launch a period of memorable and meaningful magic in this year’s honorees’ lives.
To determine a potential nominee, simply look around you and single out women you know, who have lived and served this community a number of years with good and pure intentions to serve others and “to get the job done” wherever there happens to be a need.
Certainly they’re out there, and WHW is anxious to hear about them and to honor them.
Let the nominations begin!
If you or your organization would like to lend support to this event, financial donations are appreciated. They can be sent to the WHW address above.
