Vikings sweep Bulldogs

| March 18, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — The Vikings exploded out of the gate in their season opener, sweeping the Bulldogs in a pair of nonleague games at Larry Schwenke Field.

Sophomore Elli Tindell combined for six hits and senior Kristina Goodwin added a solo home run in the first game for Coeur d’Alene (2-0), a 21-0 shutout.

Maggie Kirscher had three of Sandpoint’s (0-3) eight hits against her former team in the second game, a 14-2 loss. Molly Givens went the distance in the second game, but the Vikings simply had too much offense.

The defensive play of the day was turned in by Sandpoint outfielder Christina Johnson.

“The ball was hit hard and she made a nice grab,” said assistant coach Mike Givens. “She charged over, turned on a dime and threw out the runner at second base for the double play.”

Sandpoint is at the Idaho Sporting Goods Tournament in Boise next weekend.
