Quit trashing the Clark Fork Delta

| March 20, 2010 9:00 PM

The Clark Fork Delta is a wonderful place to hunt, fish, bird watch, kayak, or just take your dog for a walk. It is one of the few public places in Bonner County where everyone has a chance to access Lake Pend Oreille without having to ask permission to do so.

There is a small group of hunters who apparently don’t respect the resource the same way that I do. For the group of hunters who hunted upstream from the Government Building on or shortly after Dec. 12 last year, please pick up your garbage!

Last weekend I picked up your pop cans, Marlboro cigarette cartons, candy wrappers, shell boxes, and a couple hundred shot shell hulls. It takes a lot of time and energy to hunt; it’s really not that hard to pick up after yourself when you leave.

All those shotgun shell hulls are not a trophy; they are garbage. Your actions are not only irresponsible but they are offensive to hunters and non-hunter alike. Don’t give conscientious hunters a bad image. I appreciate the ability to hunt on the Clark Fork Delta; I don’t appreciate the fact that I have to hunt in your trash.  Hunters clean up your act.
