Group helping prevent planet's destruction

A recent letter (while I realize to a certain extent was tongue and cheek) that if environmentalist believe in evolution,  they should not be worried about species that go extinct  as it has been happening for millions of years and as we believe in evolution wouldn’t that fix all the problems.

The subtext being, of course, bad liberal environmentalist, who do not believe in creation (God) but believe in Darwin and evolution are always screwing things up in an effort to protect the planet and making people starve to death in the process, I would argue just the opposite!

The letter goes on to mention that environmentalist have put thousands of farmers out of work in an effort to save the “San Francisco estuary river smelt.” The smelt of course being the “canary in the coal mine”  of a  very important ecological habitat. It is the breeding ground for Dungeness crab, Pacific halibut, Pacific salmon and is a filter of sediments and pollution of the water flowing to the Pacific which has been showing signs of dying from many causes. It is 1600 square miles of water that is also need by millions of migratory birds flying from Alaska to Mexico and beyond.

So as California has been experiencing a severe drought and city populations who rely on that water have grown and farmers as far south as Fresno want more and more water they had to cut the water being pumped by 20 percent. It was, of course, picked up by none other than Hanity of Fox news to show how crazy environmentalists are. Which because of the recent storms it looks like more water will be pumped this year which is good news for everybody!

The end of this letter asked the question are environmentalists standing in the way of nature taking its course ? I would hope so, if that course is the human race with me and my family going extinct ! If you think God will protect the planet and he has given it to us to use as we see fit as some do: I give you Chernobyl  and the Bible that says “ God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth “
