Medina in main event at House of Fury tonight
WORLEY — Sandpoint boxer and Coeur d’Alene House of Fury favorite Favio Medina returns to the ring tonight at the Coeur d’Alene Casino, fighting a dangerous puncher in Louisiana’s Jason Papillion. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the fights slated to start at 7 p.m.
Among those in attendance will be boxing legend George Foreman, in Worley to watch his son George “Monk” Foreman III put his undefeated 5-0 record on the line in one of the undercard bouts.
Medina (21-2-3, with 8 KO’s) is in a rematch with Papillion (39-14-2, with 25 KO’s). The last time they fought, it ended in a technical draw due to an accidental head-butt. The incident caused Papillion to get a huge cut over his left eye, and the doctor stopped the fight in the 3rd round.
The 147 pound main event features a contrast in boxing styles, as Papillion is a power puncher, while Medina mixes speed and power, looking to extend the fight and use superior conditioning to wear his opponent down.
“Every fight card just seems to get better. There’s a great deal on the line for Favio and he’ll show up fit and ready for this one,” said fight promoter Moe Smith. “The kid’s well known as a gym rat and his work ethic with this sport is as fine as I’ve seen. With George Foreman here and his son fighting, we have added attractions. We will expect another sellout and fans are going to enjoy the card we’ve put together.”
Ticket prices are, General-$17.50 Reserved-$35 and Ringside-$50. For more information, visit “www.cdacasino.com.”
