C. Leslie Cavender, 95, passed away in Sandpoint, ID on Friday, April 30, 2010.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5th, in Pinecrest Memorial Park.  Pastor Stan Norman, Sandpoint United Methodist Church, will be officiating.

Leslie was born in Summit Bridge, Delaware on Nov. 22, 1914, the son of Harry and Florence Cavender.  He grew up in Summit Bridge and graduated from trade school in Wilming-ton, Del.  He operated a milk route, picking up milk for delivery to the local creamery.

On Sept. 6, 1940 he and Florence E. Golt were married in Middle-town, Dela  During World War II he worked in the shipyards, building LST’s for the U.S. Navy.  He established, and operated, a home and lawn service in Wilimington, Del. until retiring in 1979.  He moved to the Sandpoint area in 1987.

In Delaware, he was a long-time member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.  He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Delaware and Sandpoint.  He enjoyed working in his shop, making gifts out of wood for his family, and trimming his home in wood.

Leslie was an outstanding husband, father figure, and an honorable man.

He is survived by his wife, of 69 years, Florence in Sandpoint; two sons Wayne (and Bethany) Cavender; Gary (and Suzan) Cavender, both in Naples, Idaho; four grandchildren Casey, Bailey, Chloe, and Tucker; and a brother Harry (and Catherine) Cavender in New Castle, Del.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
