Palmer, Nesbitt lead Cats at NSL track meet

SANDPOINT — Chaunce Nesbitt posted a personal best to win the 300 hurdles (44.34) and finished second in the 110 hurdles, leading the host Wampus Cat boys to a third place finish Tuesday at the North Star League district track meet at Sandpoint High School.

Clark Fork freshman Axel Anderson uncorked a personal best 103-11 to win the discus, the first time he’s eclipsed 100 feet all season, and James Becker placed second in the shot put, launching a personal best 36-8, just three inches off the winning mark. Max Frazier finished second in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200, James Kennerly was third in the 400, Becker third in the discus and Nesbitt third in the triple jump to round out the boys placers.

Zara Palmer won the 400 and finished third in both the 100 and 100 hurdles to lead the Wampus Cat girls to a fourth place finish.

“It’s the first time she’s run the 400 all year and she won it,” said Clark Fork head coach Frank Hammersley of Palmer, who ran the hurdles at state last season. “She doesn’t want to give up hurdles, but I think the 400 might be her strongest event.”

Mackenzie Quiroz finished second in the high jump to round out the Wampus Cat girls placers.

Kootenai won both the boys and girls team titles, with the boys edging Wallace by one point.

Clark Fork turns its attention to the regionals in Kamiah on May 14-15, where a host of Cats will vie for state berths.
