Re-elect Cheryl Piehl as county treasurer
Cheryl Piehl started work at the Bonner County Treasurer’s office in 1989. She was interviewed by Alice Nelson, the treasurer. I had the privilege of sitting in for the interview. Cheryl was very forthright and honest with her answers. She takes her job very seriously. She was appointed treasurer in 2002.
After reading Mr. Maras’ article in the paper, it sounds to me that he should run for the clerk or the commissioner’s position. After all, these offices are the ones that set up the budget.
Each office has their own budget which is decided by the clerk and the commissioners. The treasurer only oversees her departments budget of $250,000, but ultimately the Board of County Commissioners approve the budget. Idaho Code directs the County Clerk to prepare the budget. The majority of the treasurer’s duties are to serve as tax collector for more than 40 taxing districts.
Mr. Maras commented about the number of properties that are taken to tax deed. This is not a minor issue. The office works for six months with those taxpayers before the deadline to deed. Usually the day of the deadline, some of the taxpayers show up with their tax payment. A lot of hard work goes into helping these taxpayers.
Cheryl has the experience to continue as the Bonner County treasurer.
Please put an “X” by Cheryl Piehl and re-elect her. I certainly plan on voting for her!
