Robert H “Bob” Domes, 81, passed away in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 14, in Coffelt’s Funeral Chapel.
Bob was born in Seattle, Wash., on Oct. 23, 1928, and graduated from Franklin High School in the Ranier Beach area of Seattle.
Following high school he served with the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific, at the end of World War II.
On March 24, 1950, he married Shirley Clement in Hollywood, Calif., and lived in Tarzana, Calif.
He attended Santa Monica College and UCLA.
Bob worked in the film industry for many years, working for Technicolor and then Deluxe General, a division of Fox, retiring in 1979, and moving to Hope, Idaho
He and Shirley owned, and operated, the Pend Oreille Landing Resort in Hope.
Bob was a member of Lakeside Lodge No. 42 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite, and the Shrine.
Music was a career, and a passion, for Bob. He had played professionally, arranged music, directed “big bands,” and recorded music. He especially loved the ’40s swing music and once said “music is my life.” Bob played the piano for President Gerald Ford, when the past president visited the Hope area.
Bob loved his family, history and geography.
He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, Shirley in Hope, Idaho; two children, Patti (and Jerry) Clemons, of Hope, and Rob (and Linda) Domes of Newbury Park, Calif.; three grandchildren, Diane, Michael, and Stephanie; and three great-grandchildren TJ, Brooke, and Ben.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary; and a brother, Carl.
