Curries shoots 86 at 4A state tourney
RATHDRUM — Sandpoint senior Conner Currie fired an 86 on Monday during the first day of the 4A state golf championships at Twin Lakes Village Golf Course, good for 24th place among more than 50 golfers from around the state.
Currie, the lone Bulldog golfer to qualify for state, played the first six holes at two over par before missing some short putts and shooting a 44 on the back nine. Currie had fired a 78 on the same course at districts last week, and while he wasn’t quite as hot on Monday, he did keep the golf ball in play all round.
“He played penalty free and dry, which is an accomplishment in itself at Twin Lakes,” said head coach Jim Alsager, who believes Currie can improve in today’s final round. “He lipped out some putts and was missing the mark with his approach shots.”
Currie tees off today at 8:38 a.m., in a foursome that includes golfers from Emmett, Canyon Ridge and Twin Falls.
Bishop Kelly holds a three shot lead over Moscow to lead all boys teams with a 315, and the Moscow girls lead Middleton by four strokes with a 341 as the two-day tournament wraps up this afternoon.
