National ID card would eliminate the problems

| May 22, 2010 9:00 PM

The solution to the illegal immigration problem is the establishment of a national identity card.  The primary draw to the United States for illegals is employment.  A substantial penalty for anyone employing a worker without a valid ID would eliminate the incentive for immigration.

The ID should include among other information, a picture, place of birth and Social Security number.  It would eliminate the use of a driver’s license for identity and facilitate establishment of credit for all us citizens and legal immigrants.

For those who would argue that a national ID system would establish a police state I refer them to Switzerland and other democratic European countries which would be overwhelmed with illegals if they were not able to control their employment.

My Foreign Service posting as U.S. Consul in Zurich, Switzerland, convinced me of the merits and necessity of a national ID as means of controlling illegal immigration.
