Obama's comment on military was regrettable

| May 31, 2010 9:00 PM

My president recently proposed that veterans obtain private insurance to cover injuries received in service to their country. I didn’t believe it. No American president could be this ignorant.

Obama said, “Look, it’s an all-volunteer force. Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the cost of their choice?”

Then making the commencement address at West Point, he tells the graduates that the US military “… is the cornerstone of our national defense.” I feel for the men and women who have to obey orders from this commander-in-chief.

In one speech he shows no regard for our military, and in the next breath he tells the people in uniform how important they are? If I have been willing to give my president any benefit of the doubt, this is no longer so. I respect the office, but any shred of respect I had for my president is gone.

Article 2, Section 4, of our Constitution defines grounds for impeachment as, “ … treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Obama’s regrettable attempt to throw our military under the bus does not meet this definition. Mental darkness and contempt of our military are not grounds for impeachment.

However, we will survive and prosper, as a nation, in spite of the liars, cheats and thieves in D.C. … both parties.

God bless our troops — they deserve support, not disdain — and God bless America.
