SANDPOINT — Some students will be praised and others grounded, but either way, Sandpoint High School parent-teacher conferences stand to completely disrupt social schedules next week.

Scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 10 and Thursday, Nov. 11, the conferences will help parents better grasp the school’s offered programs and, with assistance from first quarter report cards, their kids’ performance.

The school is releasing students an hour early on Wednesday and giving them Thursday and Friday off to accommodate the event. The arena-style conferences will run from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Floor plans will help parents navigate their way to the right teachers. They can also pick up their kids’ report cards directly from the school.

Since each teacher maintains between 100 and 160 students, however, parents should limit arena conferences to around five minutes per instructor. They can also schedule individual meetings with teachers through the counseling office if they require a more nuanced and lengthy conversation.

The school administration hopes that parents will leave the conference with a better understanding of the options available for their children

“We are attempting to get the word out that we are open and business is booming,” SHS administrative assistant Beth Dean said via e-mail.
