Donald Lee 'Bud' Newton, 83

Donald Lee “Bud” Newton, 83, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 ,at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Pastor Dave Olson of the First Lutheran Church officiating.  Burial and military honors will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, and a reception will follow at the Lakeview Funeral Home reception area.

Bud was born on Aug. 20, 1927, in Sandpoint, Idaho, to Edward and Hattie Newton. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1945. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Philip-pines.

On Feb. 22, 1950, Bud married Dolores Koenig in Vancouver, Wash.

Bud worked in the timber industry in Idaho, Alaska, and Washington. He retired from Northwest Timber in Coeur d’Alene as head saw filer in 1988.  He then made his home in Priest River, Idaho.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching sports.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores Newton of Sandpoint; three sons, Gil Newton in Arizona, Fred Newton (Arleen Holden) of Coeur d’Alene, and Bud (Amber) Newton of Spirit Lake, Idaho; one daughter, Laurie (Randy) Rurey of Priest River; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Phillips of The Dalles, Ore., and Darlene Rose of Spokane; and a brother, Ted (Jean) Newton of Kennewick, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tom Ronk; and a sister, Frona Garvison.
