All good things will run downhill, right?

I’m not sure I understand the new meaning of conservative. These conservatives want everything controlled by big corporations or the religious right, no protection or oversight by government agencies. They seem to want government intervention in only areas that they approve. A doctor and patient’s right  to choose what procedure is in the patient’s  best interest based on religious beliefs of someone else.

They want to privatize schools, only the rich should be well-educated; privatize Social Security, some corporation has control of your retirement and their profit margin is first priority; privatize the Veterans Administration and Medicare; again profit margin is first priority. A wounded veteran returns home to find a for-profit insurance company decides if he is eligible for treatment. Government oversight is what should keep big corporations and big money from ruling our country.

Perhaps if President Obama would have declared another war instead of trying to obtain health care for us, he would be more popular with the conservatives. Health care reform as first proposed and endorsed by Consumer Reports magazine would have held insurance companies accountable.

Insurance companies have no anti-trust laws to contend with, they can set prices and procedures covered at will. The decline of the United States as an independent manufacturer of goods and services is in part a direct result of this conservative movement. No taxes. No support for education, no support for veterans after they return home. Don’t worry everything will trickle down, good things run downhill.
