| November 11, 2010 6:00 AM

Alan C. Bergman, 64, of Rapid City, S.D., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Al was born Feb. 20, 1946, in Sandpoint, Idaho. He left Sandpoint after high school when he joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, he met Sheila Riedel, whom he married on Nov. 5, 1967. He continued to serve his country until his honorable discharge in 1969.

He spent many years working as an installation and repair technician for Mosler Safe Company before purchasing and running apartment buildings in Rapid City.

Al always enjoyed spending time with his family and going to coffee with all of his friends.

His hobbies included operating his ham radio, working on his antique cars, talking about politics, playing music, woodworking, and creating many unique pieces of handiwork — everything from handmade windmills to cigar box guitars.

His family and friends will remember him as a brilliant man who could fix anything and make everyone laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Bergman of Rapid City; a daughter, Dalene Olson, and her husband, Mike of Rapid City; a son, Kyle Bergman, his wife, Kristel; and their three children, Klare, Ethan, and Ean, all of Mobile, Ala.; five brothers, Darrel Bergman of Post Falls, Idaho, Don Bergman of Spokane, Wash., Jack Bergman of Sandpoint, Wendel Bergman, of Hope, Idaho, and Mike Bergman of Pendleton, Ore.; and a sister, Janice Murphy, of Post Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

A local memorial service is being planned for a later date.

A memorial has been established.
