Where is the outrage over Rush Limbaugh?
Rush Limbaugh is a truly despicable person and a racist. Just this week, in discussing the competition for the Democratic minority whip position in the next Congress between Steny Hoyer (white) and James Clyburn (black), he suggested that Clyburn could retain his perks by “Driving Miss Nancy.” It was an unmistakable reference to the great movie, Driving Miss Daisy, in which Morgan Freeman played a chauffeur for an aristocratic Southern woman.
Limbaugh has a sad history of racist remarks, one of which got him fired at ESPN where he was an NFL commentator.
Most radio personalities couldn’t get away with that kind of behavior. Don Imus was fired for a comment about the Rutgers University woman’s basketball team. Listeners and sponsors were so outraged that CBS was forced to dump him.
Where is the outrage over Limbaugh? Is he so big that no one dares challenge him? Is he so big that no one is willing to speak out against him? Clearly, there are those on the left speaking up. But, where is the leadership and intestinal fortitude from the right.
In typical fashion, Limbaugh will suggest it was just a joke or that he’s just an entertainer. But, he is using public airwaves as the vehicle for his vile behavior. There are several words that cannot be spoken on the public air because they are vulgar and socially unacceptable. There clearly are ideas that fall into that same category.
