SAGLE — A California man was found dead in his hotel room after Bonner County Sheriff’s officials received a request Saturday morning to check on his welfare.

Brian Erb, 33, was found deceased at 1:11 p.m. at the Sandpoint Lodge. A preliminary investigation by sheriff’s detectives found no signs of foul play, Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler said.

The sheriff’s office received the request for an agency assist for the welfare check at 9 a.m.

According to reports by California media, Erb was reported missing Nov. 10 by family members who said he left his home voluntarily without notifying his family, friends or his employer.

His father, Jeff Erb, who owns the restaurant where Brian Erb worked as a catering manager in Pleasant Hill, Calif., told media that his son was an  experienced outdoorsman who often went camping and dirt biking.

When he left California, he had money, clothing and camping equipment, according to KTVU.com.

However, family and friends said it was not like Erb to go off without telling anyone where he was going.

An investigation into the death is ongoing.
