McMahon leads Wampus Cats to sweep of Panthers
CLARK FORK — Claire McMahon stuffed the stat sheet with four kills, five digs, three blocks and three aces to lead the Wampus Cats to a straight set 25-12, 25-16 and 25-23 win over 2A Coeur d’Alene Charter in nonleague volleyball action Thursday night in Clark Fork.
Mariah Miller added five kills and six digs, Celeste Komanec 15 assists, Zara Palmer four aces and Heather Wold six digs for the Wampus Cats (9-2), winners of four straight despite missing their top hitter. Brocklynn Thornton had three kills and two blocks, as she continues to see limited minutes while coming back from a shoulder injury.
“Just a good team effort,” said Cats coach Michelle Adams. “It was their Homecoming and they started strong and kept the momentum.”
Lexi Turkenburg tallied 10 digs, three kills and three aces, and Emily Verhaeghe eight kills and eight digs in defeat for the Panthers (1-11).
Clark Fork is at Lakeside on Tuesday, looking to remain undefeated in league play.
