Wampus Cats fall to Miners
CLARK FORK — It was a bittersweet game for Clark Fork head coach Brian Arthun, whose son Derek Arthun rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Wallace Miners to a 52-6 win in North Star League football Friday night during Homecoming in Clark Fork.
Jesse Needles added an 80 yard touchdown catch from Gavin Rasmussen and also returned a punt 70 yards for the Miners (5-0, 5-0 NSL), the No. 3 ranked team in the state. The Miners scored 24 points in the third quarter, when the game was called due to the 45 point mercy rule.
“I thought the kids showed a lot of grit and fight against a good Wallace team. They were a lot bigger and more powerful than us, but we fought them tooth and nail,” said Arthun, lamenting three first half turnovers. “It’s hard anytime you coach against your own son. I’d rather have a win, but I can’t help but be proud of the game he played.”
Nate Nesbitt, who ran a version of the Wildcat offense, threw a 30 yard touchdown to Zack Klein to score the only touchdown for the Wampus Cats (1-4, 1-4 NSL), who are banged up and will look to heal with a bye next week.
