Fall reads offer you things to think about

| October 5, 2010 7:00 AM

Reflecting on several high-viz events of this last August, two books came to mind that I felt were worthy of sharing:

Pursuant to Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor Rally” this last Aug. 28 in Washington, D.C., “Is God on America’s Side?” authored by Erwin Lutzer (a Moody Press publication) provides both compliment, contrast and biblical basis. If like me, you are interested in how we got to where we are, then where we’re headed, you don’t have to be a GB fan — or a believer for that matter — to gain perspective and benefit from this read.

Then for any like me who just didn’t get enough during this summer’s 100th anniversary of “The Fire of 1910,” Edward Craner’s a captivating historical novel titled, The Saints of God’s Country. (Self-published by my brother, Ed, and available online and also at several Inland Northwest public libraries). If you’ve been blessed to have spent any time at all up the beautiful St. Joe River valley, this coming-of-age story will take you back a hundred years to the summer of 1910 in the little town of St. Maries, Idaho at the confluence of the St. Joe and St. Maries rivers.
