MaeBelle Ellen Schutter Hulquist

MaeBelle Ellen Schutter Hulquist passed away at her home at Jewel Lake on Oct. 4, 2010.

Memorial services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Jewel Lake Barn, 3056 Jewel Lake Road in Sagle, Idaho.

MaeBelle was born in Missoula, Mont., on May 13, 1941. She was the oldest of eight children, four brothers and three sisters. MaeBelle graduated from Superior High School in Montana in 1959. That summer, she went to work at the Cedars logging came on the Clearwater River in Idaho. There she met Guy Hulquist and they were married on Dec. 12, 1959, in Missoula.

While living in Montana MaeBelle and Guy had three sons: Bret (Kim) of Spokane and Brady and Alan of Jewel Lake. She was the proud grandmother of five grandsons and three granddaughters, with an expected great-grandchild.

MaeBelle and Guy moved to Jewel Lake in 1980 during the time of the Mount St. Helens eruption and helped to care for Guy’s grandparents, Art and Nellie Hulquist and then later for Guy’s parents Carl and Arbutus.

MaeBelle worked for four years at The Edgewater Inn in Sandpoint and was an awesome cook. She was very active in the Triangle Homemakers Club, the Edgemere Grange, Bonner- Boundary County Pomona Grange, Idaho State and National Grange. While living at Jewel Lake MaeBelle and Guy became interested in Square Dancing and converted their barn into a square dance hall. The hall was also used for weddings and family occasions.

She was truly a gracious lady and will be missed by all who knew her.
