It's past time to revamp system

| October 12, 2010 7:00 AM

So it’s OK for the Congress to give themselves raises whenever they want but the senior citizens who depend on their monthly Social Security checks cannot get a cost of living increase for another year, which makes two years in a row of no cost of living increase for our senior citizens.

Of course, we all realize that the cost of living in 2011 will be exactly the same as it was 2008, at least that is what our terrific Congress believes. No wait, they gave themselves four raises in two years so they obviously don’t believe that. They just want to screw the little guy for their own benefit, typical politicos.

I say kick them all out and start new. If people want to run for  an office as a senator or for the House of Representatives let them. But they can only serve one term and then back to private life where they have to work for a living. They currently receive $15,000 and tax free dollars a month retirement after serving just one term in office, which boarders on absurdity in today’s world.

For a brand-new Congress, these people will get the same retirement, Social Security when they are old enough, and the same health coverage as the rest of us. No more tax deductible huge donations from the corporate world. No more lobbyist. No more electoral collage. No more ridiculous political conventions. Depending on the office, candidates can only spend a certain amount of money on their campaigns and they can only do this 60 days prior the election. Remember folks, “the fish stinks from the head down.”
