Socialism collapsing under its own weight

| October 12, 2010 7:00 AM

Am I wrong, or is the socialist experiment in Europe crumbling under its own weight? Would not Greece be exhibit A? Denmark and Sweden, sky-high tax rate bastions of cradle-to-grave entitlements, see storm clouds building. Is there a message here for us? Those in power are devious in their efforts to control our daily life. Americans need to vote intelligently in November, rather than blindly partisan.

Socialism is a bus ride that culminates in an inevitable wreck. Those who support establishment of socialism are those who would benefit:  bureaucrats (including central planners); those who become powerful at the expense of the working class; those who crave entitlements.

Socialism scorns individuality, loathes competition, encourages (as does fascism) racial and class discrimination, espouses government control of property and production, disperses goods as planners see fit, raises taxes… the  stated  goal being  a classless(never happens!) society. Is this what we want? For some time, we have had what is referred to as “creeping” socialism. It is insidious. Perhaps we need to look at Europe and learn?

Leon Trotsky, a Russian who spoke against Stalinism said, “In a country where the sole employer is the state, opposition means death by slow starvation. The old principle: who does not work shall not eat, has been replaced by a new one: one who does not obey shall not eat.”

God bless America, and God bless our troops.
