Bulldogs host Bears today for berth at state
SANDPOINT — A state berth is on the line today at War Memorial Field, when the Bulldog boys soccer team hosts Moscow in the championship game of the 4A Region 1 tournament.
The Bulldogs (10-5-1) are peaking at the right time, with a host of different players finding the back of the net in recent games. Senior Tanner Williams spearheads the attack, with team highs of 22 goals and nine assists on the year, many of the latter coming in the past few matches.
Shane Stanley (10 goals, five assists), Jansen Rinck (four goals, three assists) and Jasper Gibson (four goals) are viable scoring options to complement the dangerous game of Williams.
Ryan Schwartz quarterbacks the back third, with help from senior defenders Peik Wahl and Tyler Ariss. Kanyen Bauer has posted five shutouts in goal, using his length and athleticism to provide a rock-solid final line of defense.
The No. 1 Bulldogs beat No. 2 Moscow by the score of 2-1 in both games this season, and will look to jump out early on the Bears (9-8-0), who scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute to notch a 2-1 win over No. 3 Lakeland in the tournament opener in Moscow on Monday.
The championship match starts at 3:30 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
Century Club passes and ASB cards are not valid at district games, and only state and district passes will be honored. Adult tickets cost $5, seniors and students (with activity cards) cost $4 and children six and under are free.
