Douglas Dallas Peterson, 74, passed away very peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

An open house and celebration of Doug’s life will begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 6, at his home on “Peterson’s Knob.”

Doug was born on Aug. 29, 1936, in Eugene, Ore., to Leland and Eva Peterson. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1955, and served in the Army where he was stationed in Korea. He worked for the Bureau of Land Management as a surveyor in northern California and later worked at the Oregon Steele Mill in St. John’s, Ore.

In 1980, he moved his family to Elmira, Idaho, to experience the country life in a log cabin. Doug was quite the prankster, a creative artist and an extraordinary storyteller. He loved fishing, going to garage sales, and playing with his dog and cat.

He leaves behind his best friend and wife of 40 years, Barbara Peterson; daughters, Danette (Scott) Beckman of Portland and Marcy (Roger) Timblin of Colburn, Idaho; six grandchildren, Johnny, Adina, Erika, Alysha, Lance and Dorian; and two great-grandchildren Sunjay and Zoey. He also leaves behind Sisters Mable Hughes of Winston, Ore., and Doris Markham of Portland, numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend Kristy Harvey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings Pete, Evelyn, Verna and Harold.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements. Please visit Doug’s online memorial at www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign his guest book.
