Hearing set in camera thefts

SANDPOINT — A preliminary hearing is pending for an Oldtown man accused of stealing security cameras from the West Bonner County School District and possessing methamphetamine and a stolen pistol.

William Scholfield Scheutzow is charged with two counts of grand theft for the closed-circuit television cameras, felony drug possession and grand theft by possession of stolen property.

Scheutzow, 27, is being held at the Bonner County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for this coming Wednesday.

Scheutzow took one of the exterior cameras off a rear corner of Idaho Hill Elementary School on Aug. 26, charging papers allege. He returned the next day for a camera on the front of the school.

The combined value of the Bosch cameras is $2,600, according to unsealed probable cause hearing testimony. A detective testified during the hearing that Scheutzow confessed to swiping the cameras, which last captured partial images of the defendant.

Scheutzow was arrested on Oct. 7 on charges of possessing meth and a .357 magnum pistol that had been reported stolen.
