Many questions on juvenile detention
I see the juvenile detention center as a problem.
Joe Young and Lewis Rich say this issue needs to be resolved now. Why? When money is at a premium in these times, does building a new structure make sense? Who is benefiting from this? The construction company hired by the county on most of their jobs? With remodeling a building, you could fix that which needs to meet state requirements and make do with the rest.
The county owns property. Joe Young says we need to not use county-owned property but have a lease-purchase agreement to avoid liability to the taxpayer. Somehow, this is not making a whole lot of sense.
Lewis Rich says PAC’s decision was “purely political” that they wouldn’t loan additional money. Joe Young says money could be taken from the emergency funds of other county departments. This input is not making sense. I have heard from more than one source about the unconstitutionality of it all.
I feel we, the taxpayers, are not being given the truth and nothing but the truth. There has to be some under the table deals.
Curious how this project was voted down when it was $6 million and now it has dropped to $4 million so we are supposed to swallow it. Joe Young and Lewis Rich claim it takes this much money to meet state specifications. Ever considered why we aren’t getting a vote on it? After it’s done, guess who gets to pay for keeping it running as well as upkeep?
