Bulldog boys claim regional cross country championship
LEWISTON — Seniors Danny Pfeifer and Jimmy Mathews placed second and third overall, respectively, to lead the Sandpoint boys to the team title and an automatic state berth on Thursday at the 4A Region 1 cross country championships at Hells Gate Park in Lewiston.
Pfeifer clocked a 16:37, and Mathews a 16:43 as both were more than 20 seconds behind Adam Storey from Moscow. Evan Rains (4th) and Sam Levora (7th) also notched top finishes as every point mattered, with the Bulldogs beating the Bears by six points to earn the automatic team berth. Alex Charvoz, Mason Foster and James Cartwright will round out the varsity state team.
Molly Burgstahler finished first overall to lead the Sandpoint girls, clocking a 20:58 to win the girls race by 12 seconds. Aubrie Perry (3rd) and Sydney Foster (6th) will join Burgstahler at state next weekend, earning a spot with a top seven overall finish individually.
