Departments' endorsements seem unethical

| October 26, 2010 7:00 AM

How lucky we are to live in a country where we can write our local paper and voice an opinion. I find the letters from individuals during the election season especially interesting. But, I’m confused. If people are paid by taxpayers, either by direct stipend (such as Policemen) or receive other benefits of actual financial support such as use of a car or meeting house, uniforms, etc. should they, in their supported positions, endorse a candidate?  I find this ethically unacceptable. Apparently, the Sandpoint Fire Department Union, district fire departments, ambulance service, et. al., see no conflict of interest in their endorsement of a candidate. Talk about scratching your own back. Bring on the laced Kool-Aid or Tony Soprano. I know “it’s only business.”
