Steven Michael Burks, 59

Steven Michael Burks, 59, known in the area as the “Glass-man” passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 in Clark Fork, Idaho. 

A party will be held in Mike’s honor at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Sandpoint, Idaho. Please come dressed in your favorite colorful attire.

Mike was born on July 11, 1951, in Detroit, Mich., to Robert and Hope Burks. He grew up and attended schools in Michigan and California. Mike went to work for Kentucky Fried Chicken in California, and worked his way up to marketing manager. 

He later transferred to Portland, Ore., where he married Lisa Weseman on Oct. 5, 1986. They lived in Colton, Ore., for nine years before moving to Clark Fork in 1996.

Mike then started a stained and fused glass business, and his artwork is displayed at the Floor Show in Kootenai. He was also currently working for Home Depot.

Mike was a great artist, was great at working with his hands, and was dearly loved by his family and friends.

He enjoyed working on his wooden boat, hunting, fishing, nature, 4-wheeling, and spending time with his dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Burks of Clark Fork; daughter, Stacey (Brian) Maltagliati of Vista, Calif.; son, Michael (Leanne) Burks of Crystal, Minn.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Pat (Caryna) Burks of Portland, Ore, and Bob (Carol) Burks of Oceanside, Calif.; three sisters, Carolyn Saulpaw of St. George, Utah, Kathy (Brent) Nelson of LaVerkin, Utah, and Nancy (James) Moore of Hurricane, Utah; and his parents, Robert and Hope Burks also from Hurricane, Utah.
