Will oligarchy be next form of government?

| October 26, 2010 7:00 AM

I get so tired of the right-wing drumbeat, people who wrap themselves in God and the flag, where if it is not said outright the subtext is you are un-American if you are not a conservative but rather a Nazi, socialist, communist who is bent on destroying our liberty and country. We are a republic which is a mixture of democracy and socialism and our economic system which is capitalism is the best system yet devised, where ideas can flourish and wealth is created by the development of those ideas privately.

But “unbridled capitalism” (zero regulation) mixed with fundamentalist religion, belligerent nationalism and a belief in American exceptionalism (to the point of arrogance), where any effort to use diplomacy is viewed as weakness and down right unpatriotic is every bit as dangerous as the above. Which has gotten us it seems involved in unending wars: “No nation could preserve it’s freedom in the midst of continual warfare” James Madison. “We will bankrupt ourselves in the vain attempt to have absolute security,” Dwight D. Eisenhower.

When you vote conservative you vote for: Privatizing everything including Social Security, continued tax breaks to send jobs overseas, increased military spending, continued redistribution of wealth upward (Bush largest in history). Add a trillion to the deficit to give billionaires tax breaks. More deregulation even for banks and Wall Street so they can continue their derivatives scam.

Will a “oligarchy” be our next form of government with no middle class which is what made this country great?
