| October 28, 2010 7:00 AM

SANDPOINT — The U12 Black Striker boys had two games last week, including an intense match against the U12 Red team that ended in a 1-1 draw. The game was spirited and hard fought by both teams.

Michael Morrison really stood out as keeper. Morrison was timing his blocks perfectly as he deflected some beautiful shots the Red team took. Dylan Dufenhorst started the scoring for the Black team by winning a ball on the left flank. He made a quick pass to Jack Rinck who immediately switched the point of attack finding Patrick Rockwell. Rockwell anticipated Gabriel Herrera’s run into space and played the perfect ball in behind the Red’s defensive back line for the lone Black goal. Rockwell had a fantastic game with some stellar passing and some sweet 1v1 moves. Ben Schwartz and Amos Crossingham played brilliantly on the defensive back line. Both players were controlling their area on defense keeping the Red attackers in front of them and out of the 18. Men of the match were Rockwell and Morrison.

Over the weekend the U12 Black team hosted Pullman, winning 6-1. Finding the back of the net for the Strikers was Rinck with two goals, and Brennan Powell, Finn Treadaway, Nick Griffin and Herrera with one each. Milo Duebendorfer had a fantastic game especially as a defender. Duebendorfer was speedy on the back line and was not about to let any attackers get by him. Reid Golphenee had a fantastic game. Golphenee got in hard and won many 1v1 battles. His passing game was brilliant and his effort and work rate were great. Riley Ward had a superb game as center mid. Ward found himself in the middle of the action and responded well with some great passing. Treadaway also played center mid and both players were controlling the middle and finding feet with good quick passing. Powell was impressive and again his work rate was second to none. Powell almost scored a second goal but missed wide left. Griffin ripped some sweet shots and generally had his way with the Pullman defense. Schwartz was brilliant as keeper in the second half perhaps earning himself some additional time in front of the net. Crossingham made countless attacking runs with Pullman unable to stop him. Men of the match were Duebendorfer and Golphenee.
