LIBBY, Mont. — Senior Danny Pfeifer broke the Sandpoint school record for the three mile cross country time, clocking a 16:26 to finish second overall, leading the Bulldog boys to a dominating team victory on Friday at the Libby Invitational in Montana.

Jimmy Mathews finished third overall, Evan Rains fourth, Alex Charvoz sixth and Mason Foster 11th in a strong pack finish.

“The boys stormed the meet today, it was impressive,” said Bulldogs head coach Matt Brass, lauding the effort of Pfeifer in the more rare three mile distance. “He’s now got his eyes set on the 5K record, and he’s No. 8 on that list.”

Senior Molly Burgstahler clocked a 20:44 to finish seventh overall for the Bulldog girls, who finished third in the eight team meet comprised of mostly Montana schools. Two freshman, two sophomores and a junior were among the top seven finishers on the girls team.

“We’ve got a lot of youth progressing this year,” said Brass of his girls team. “By the end of the season our goal is to be in the 21 minute range. The whole goal is to grow them and be ready for regionals.”

Sandpoint’s Chris Jones ran an 18:52 to win the boys JV race, and Serena Fisher ran a 23:25 to finish second in the JV girls race.
