Marvin was born Sept. 29, 1914, to Charles and Irma Johnson. Marvin grew up on his family’s farm in Cocolalla and went to school at Twin Springs and Cocolalla.
Marvin met Alberta Terrell of Cocolalla and they were married on Oct. 31, 1938. They started Johnson’s Sandy Beach Resort by buying 160 acres on Cocolalla Lake and sold it in 1977. Marvin started Johnson’s Christmas Trees in 1962 and farmed and raised livestock. Marvin and Alberta drove school bus and started the first school bus route around Cocolalla Loop Road.
Marvin also worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps and he had many stories about the city boys from around the country that came to work in this area. As a part of World War II he helped build Farragut Naval Base and then operated the boilers at the Farragut Hospital. At the end of the war he helped with the dismantling of Farragut.
Marvin enjoyed traveling throughout Canada and the United States, making several trips up to Alaska to see his son and family. He also made several trips to Nebraska to see Alberta’s family. He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and keeping his property, on the lake, looking nice. Marvin was very dedicated to his family and friends and always enjoyed having them around.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma Johnson; granddaughter, Theresa Chapin; brothers, Eugene and Kenneth Johnson; wife, Alberta Johnson; and son, Leland Johnson.
