Trojans take down Bulldog boys 1-0
SANDPOINT — Timmy Meuller scored in the 18th minute, and it would be all Post Falls would need, as the Trojans hung on to notch a rare road win at Sandpoint, downing the Bulldogs 1-0 in nonleague boys soccer action under the Thursday night lights of War Memorial Field.
Monte Boyd posted a shutout in goal for the Trojans (4-1), whose coach lauded their heart after the physical game, marked by numerous yellow cards.
“Basically sheer desire, passion and heart,” said Trojan coach Gabe Lawson of the difference in the game. “This is a hard place to play in and Sandpoint rarely loses on this field. We finally came out and showed heart and desire.”
Sandpoint (5-3-1) played with more urgency in the second half, but couldn’t finish any of their chances. Head coach Adam Tajan felt his team was done in by a slow start.
“We didn’t show up in the first half. I guess they (players) thought things would just get rolling,” he said. “When you’re a two time state champ, everybody is out to beat you. Post Falls is an athletic, fast team.”
Sandpoint is at Moscow on Wednesday in the first meeting of the two 4A North front runners.
