One-way street on tolerance these days
Tolerance and intolerance are two words that have been completely worn out in America. We must be tolerant of this group or that culture. To disagree with another’s point of view is to be intolerant. Being tolerant is a self-bestowed title one gives oneself as a way of showing others that they are “enlightened.” These same people hurl the word “intolerant” at anyone who dares to disagree with them.
A misguided pastor of some small little church says he going to burn a Quran and the whole world explodes and all Christianity is labeled intolerant of Islam. Yet, I have a news article written by Kimberly West dated June 18, 2007, titled “Christians in Gaza Fear for Their Lives as Muslims Burn Bibles and Destroy Crosses.” Around the world, Muslims are not only burning Bibles, but murdering Christians in the name of Islam on almost a daily basis. Yet the “tolerance” crowd seems to be mighty quiet about that.
If you are white and you disagree with President Obama’s policies you are labeled an “intolerant racist.” However, when Obama attacks President Bush and the conservative party we are, again, labeled “intolerant” of his ideas while he is “enlightened” and doing what is good for the people. It is always a one-way street against conservative Christian Americans.
When conservative Christian Americans put forth an argument it is always labeled “intellectual intolerance.” It is time that those who put forth these accusations look in the mirror and ask who is really being intolerant.
