Van Dyk goals helps Bulldogs tie Trojans
SANDPOINT — Melinda Van Dyk scored her team-leading fifth goal in the 9th minute, helping Sandpoint earn a 1-1 tie with Post Falls in nonleague girls soccer action Thursday at Centennial Field.
The Bulldogs (2-6-3) generated superior chances all game and held most of the possession, but ultimately had trouble finishing. Meghan Pagano had a shot hit the post and another blast saved just under the crossbar by leaping Post Falls goalie Hannah Slinkard.
“We couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities,” said Bulldogs coach Julie Pitre. “I’m pleased that we created a lot of opportunities. Ellie (Engel) played a composed game and Kendall (Stratton) was a strong anchor in the back for us.”
Slinkard had nine saves in goal to lead Post Falls (4-3-3), many in the second half as the Bulldogs mounted a number of attacks.
“When you come up to Sandpoint, it’s always going to be a rough game,” said Post Falls coach Becky Thompson. “It’s nice to come out of here with a tie.”
Sandpoint hosts Lewiston on Saturday, at 7 p.m. under the lights of War Memorial Field.
