William Harold 'Bill' Read, 92

William Harold “Bill” Read, 92, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept 22, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Sandpoint with Pastor Stan Norman officiating.

Bill was born on Aug. 12, 1918, in Murray, Neb., to Frank and Freda Read. He grew up and attended schools in Plattsmouth, Neb. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard for six years, then during the Korean War he enlisted with the Navy Seabees, and helped build the military base in Guantanamo.

Bill married Lucille Henley in 1944 in Sequim, Wash. He worked in the timber and natural resources industries, retiring from the state of Washington Department of Natural Resources in Battle Ground, Wash.

After Lucille’s passing, Bill married Esther Robinson on Jan. 8, 1989, in Sultan, Wash. The couple spent many years traveling all over the United States and Canada in their R.V. In 1995, they settled in Sandpoint to be closer to Esther’s family.

Bill is a member of the United Methodist Church. He was Worship-ful Master of Mt. Olympus Masonic Lodge No. 298 in 1970 and Sultan Lodge No. 179 in 1985, he was a 30-year member of the Scottish Rite, and belonged to the Eagles Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by two sisters, Betty Deach of Spokane, Wash., and Margaret Ann Bateman of Vernon, Fla.. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Lucille and Esther; and one sister Ardath Read.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sandpoint United Methodist Church, 711 Main St; Sandpoint Senior Center, 820 Main St; or Bonner Community Hospice, PO Box 1448, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
