Christianity is the opposite of Islam

| September 21, 2010 7:00 AM

The writer who attacked Christians in response to a letter about Muslim terrorism needs to learn more about the Bible and Christianity. There are no Christians in the Old Testament books of Numbers, Deuteronomy and Psalms. Christianity began with the birth of Jesus Christ, chronicled in the New Testament.

The Qur’an orders Muslims to work to eliminate or enslave all who do not follow the tenets of Islam (“unbelievers”). Qur’an 8:12, 9:15. Therefore, “moderate” Muslims who are truly peaceful are not following their religion.

Christianity is the opposite of Islam, ordering its followers to fight aggressive tendencies. Matthew 5:38, quoting Jesus: “You have heard that it was said, “eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”

Romans 12: “Bless those who persecute you … Do not repay evil for evil … Do not take revenge… If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink … overcome evil with good.”

Galatians 5 details “acts of the sinful nature,” including“hatred, discord, fits of rage … but the fruit of the rit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.”

When Christians commit sins of anger and aggressiveness, they are violating their religion. Finally, the implication that Christians “have been killing nonbelievers all over the world for hundreds of years,” to advance their religion by eliminating all but Christians, is blatantly untrue.
