Miller leads Cats past Tigers

MULLAN — Mariah Miller had another double-double, registering 13 kills and 16 digs to lead Clark Fork to a nail-biting 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 16-14 come-from-behind win over Mullan in North Star League volleyball Thursday night in Mullan.

Celeste Komanec added 31 set assists, Claire McMahon 16 digs and three kills, Dimi Kailang 11 digs and six kills, Tessa Vogel 13 digs and five kills and Zara Palmer two aces for the Wampus Cats (7-2, 5-0 NSL), who remain undefeated in league play.

“We started communicating more, being smarter and wanting it more,” said Cats coach Michelle Adams of the swing in momentum. “We did a good job of finishing it when it really mattered.

Kami McKinnon had nine kills and three aces, Nikki Axtman had nine kills and Sydni Kotschevar had 12 assists for Mullan (5-3, 2-3).

Clark Fork hosts Kootenai on Tuesday.

n Lake City downs Bulldog boys

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Timberwolves answered Sandpoint’s goal with two in the next five minutes to beat the Bulldogs at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

Chris Wheelock scored the go-ahead goal for Lake City (6-2-1). Mason Sanchez sent in a free kick from 35 yards out and Wheelock, racing in from the right, headed it into the net from eight yards out.

“They (Sandpoint) kinda took it to us the first five minutes (of the second half) but we countered,” said Lake City coach Chad Beadel, whose team evened the season series.

Jansen Rinck scored his third goal for Sandpoint (8-4-1) five minutes into the second half off an assist from Tanner Williams, and the Bulldogs were only able to generate six shots on goal in defeat.

Lake City plays host to Lewiston on Saturday.
