Rains leads Bulldog XC team
SPOKANE — Evan Rains and Aubrie Perry led the shorthanded Bulldog boys and girls cross country teams last Saturday at the 20 team Spokane Valley meet.
Rains clocked a 17:55 to finish 23rd overall on the 5,000 meter course to lead the Bulldog boys, who opted to rest three of their top runners. Alex Charvoz (37th), Sam Lovora (39th), Chris Jones (67th), James Cartwright (84th) and Dakota Blaese (104) rounded out the boys varsity, and Justinn Oedewaldt led the JV team with a 56th place finish.
Perry clocked a 23:23 to finish 44th overall and lead the Bulldog girls, who also rested three top runners, followed by Devan Fitzpatrick (54th), Jenny Van Ooyen (63rd), Marisa Rains (97th), Elizabeth Kovalchuk (105th) and Serena Fisher (113th). Katie Hall was the top JV finisher in 31st place.
“We had been hit by the cold going around and I want them healthy for the Sandpoint Invite and Regionals,” said head coach Matt Brass. “The kids who ran did outstanding. Our varsity was still competitive and the boys were still in the top 10 and really showed their depth.”
